Barely two weeks after a team of Ugandan Parliamentarians joined her in commissioning a 20,000 liters capacity solar powered borehole in Gwarimpa, Abuja, the FCT Senator, Hajiya Ireti Heebah Kingibe, has commissioned another 20,000 liters capacity solar powered borehole at Maitama Angwan Sarki in Orozo area of the FCT.
The lawmaker was joined by the member representing Abuja Municipal / Bwari Federal Constituency, Honourable Joshua Chinedu Obika, in commissioning the facility which residents described as ‘a life saver’, pointing out that they used to go to bed hungry, not because there was no food, but because there is no clean water for cooking and or drinking.
Speaking at the event, Senator Kingibe who deeply empatized with women over the throw ups of non availability of portable water in the area since ever, noted that such ugly situation was over and commended them for their patience, promising to include them in her numerous empowerment programs, coming up soon.
In an address, the Chairman of the community, Mr. Luther, thanked the lawmakers and their entourage for what he described as a promise well kept. He however pleaded for further assistance in the areas of road construction, electricity supply and creation of at least, a polling unit in the area. The chairman explained that the fact that there is no polling unit in the area with a population of over 800 people has leaves many disenfranchise, particularly the aged and those with disabilities.
Responding, the lawmakers unanimously promised to oblige their request as soon as possible and urged them to vote Labour Party, LP, en mass as usual, in the 2026 Area Council and Ward elections, so that those elected under LP can work with them and ensure that the dividends of democracy which have started flowing may not be obstructed.
Prior to this, Kingibe and Obika jointly commissioned a 20 capacity WAEC standard ICT Laboratory at Government Secondary School, Orozo. Donated by Ofon Essential Foundation in collaboration with the office of the latter (Hon Obika) and FCT Secondary Education Board, the facility is expected to qualify the school for internal Computer Based Tests (Examinations) as well as facilitate students’ preparation for the migration of WAEC / NECO Examinations to CBT. The duo who commended the appearance and conducts of the students urged the school authority to ensure proper maintenance and optimal utilisation of the facility.
Filled joy, the principal of the school, Mrs Bariyat Haruna thanked the visitors for all they did, promising to ensure the safety and proper utilisation of the laboratory. She however, requested for relocation of the institution saying their population has out grown the space and facilities available, thereby forcing her not to admit all the students seeking for admission.
Addressing journalists at the event, the lawmakers underlined the importance of ICT cum education, stressing that nothing can be achieved without education and ICT. “If you are not computer literate, you can actually do nothing…. We the legislators from FCT know the value of education” Said Hon. Obika, who further called on government at the local level to put in their best in supporting education, because according to him, local governments have the executive authority to create great impacts in their localities.
Alluding to this, Kingibe described education as the key to development. “Education is key to development” She said, explaining that one can achieve alot with education and that education is one of the cornerstones in her legislative agenda.
Just as if to put her words into action, the Senator promised to pay school fees for 100 indigent students, build two more ICT laboratories in the Area Council, provide a solar energy generator for the school and above all, continue to lobby extensively for the needs of schools, including ICT laboratories across the nation’s capital.
