The South-East leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) championed by the National Vice Chairman, Hon. Goodluck Chidiebere Egwu has lauded the steadfast loyalty and unwavering commitment of Senator Augustine Akobundu (Rtd), representing Abia Central Senatorial District, and the immediate past Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, for their continued support of the party, even in the face of post-election challenges.
The commendation came during an expanded Zonal Working Committee meeting held on Friday in Umuahia, Abia State, where key stakeholders from across the region gathered to review the state of the party and strengthen internal cohesion.
Speaking at the meeting, the National Vice Chairman of the PDP, South-East Zone, Hon. Goodluck Chidiebere Egwu, alongside the Abia State PDP Chairman, Elder Abraham Amah, and Imo State PDP Chairman, Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, all paid glowing tributes to Senator Akobundu and Dr. Ikpeazu for their unwavering fidelity to the ideals of the PDP.
They noted that, unlike some individuals who distanced themselves from the party after the general elections due to personal interests or grievances, Senator Akobundu and Dr. Ikpeazu have remained steadfast, and devoted to the PDP family, serving as rallying points and symbols of hope for members across the zone.
“These are men who have refused to abandon the ship when it mattered most,” Hon. Egwu said. “Their consistent presence and sacrificial leadership, even outside electoral cycles, show the calibre of statesmen they are. They are building bridges and mentoring the next generation, not just chasing the next election.”
The meeting also reaffirmed Distinguished Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the legitimate National Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party, citing the recent Supreme Court judgment that validated his position and reaffirmed his mandate in accordance with the PDP constitution.
“I have said it before, and I’m once more reiterating it, distinguished Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the PDP national secretary, until his tenure expires by December. There’s no vacancy in that position, and anyone telling you otherwise is dreaming.”
The South-East PDP called on all aggrieved members and factions across the region and the nation to return to the party’s fold in the spirit of reconciliation and unity.
“Our strength lies in our unity,” Hon. Egwu emphasized. “We are calling on everyone to put the elections behind us and focus on rebuilding a stronger, more formidable PDP in the South-East and beyond. Senator Anyanwu’s leadership remains authentic, and it is time to close ranks and move forward.”
The meeting ended with a renewed call for consolidation, grassroots engagement, and strategic repositioning of the PDP across all South-East states in preparation for future electoral battles.
